Do you have a child who will be 5 on or before August 31st and ready to start kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year or do you know someone who has a child going to Kindergarten?  Please help share the word we would love to have Kindergartners join us in the Iredell-Statesville Schools Virtual Academy!

When you are ready to enroll follow the steps below:


Step 1-Enroll your child in Iredell-Statesville Schools



Step 2-Apply for I-SS Virtual Academy Acceptance

You will be notified via email of the schools decision

Kindergarten School Application


Step 3-Once Accepted you will provide the following information to the school:

  • Certified Birth Certificate (the person's name enrolling the child must be on the Birth Certificate)

  • Immunization Records

  • Health Assessment (for Kindergarten and new to North Carolina students)

  • Proof of Residence (something showing service into the home; must include the parent's name; examples include a home phone bill, electric bill, cable bill; a driver's license will not be accepted as proof of residence)

  • Picture ID of parent/legal guardian/legal custodian

  • Custody Papers (if applicable)

Lindsay and Schultz Named New School Leaders

Superintendent Dr. Jeff James announced the following personnel appointments, which the Iredell-Statesville Board of Education approved on Monday, May 13, 2024.

Shayla Savage, Executive Director of Administrative Services has been named the Chief Student Services Officer.  In her new role, Mrs. Savage will serve as the leader of the Student Services Division providing oversight to student discipline, Title IX, and the district behavior management team. She will also support the work of our school nurses and behavioral specialists.

“I am honored and ecstatic to serve as the Chief Student Services Officer for Iredell-Statesville Schools,” stated Savage. “I look forward to working with our fantastic students, esteemed staff, and supportive community while strengthening our partnerships to ensure the well-being and safety of all children.”

The creation of the Student Services Division will allow our district administrators to provide more intentional support to our schools and students. In addition to this new division, Jessica Smith, program director, has been named the Director of Student Services and Family Support, and Mark Vaughn, Alternative Learning Coordinator, has been named the Director of Student Well-Being and Alternative Services. 

Tim Woody, Director of Career and Technical Education has been named the Executive Director of High Schools and Career and Technical Education. Mr. Woody will continue his current duties while providing additional administrative support to high schools.

Mrs. Savage, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Vaughn, and Mr. Woody will assume their positions on June 1, 2024. 

Mark Shinkaruk, principal at Third Creek Middle School has been named the Chief Operating Officer. In this position, Mr. Shinkaruk will serve as the leader of the Operations Division providing support to the technology, maintenance, construction, transportation, and school nutrition departments. 

“I am very excited to step into the role of Chief Operations Officer for Iredell-Statesville Schools. I look forward to building on our strong foundation and working collaboratively to continue providing an outstanding environment for teaching and learning,” explained Shinkaruk. “Together, we will strive to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency to support the academic success of all students.”

Mr. Shinkaruk will assume his role on June 4, 2024.

The reorganization of the central office comes as an effort to streamline the organizational structure to provide the best support to our schools, employees, and ultimately our students.

Lindsay and Schultz Named New School Leaders

Superintendent Dr. Jeff James announced the new leaders of two schools following the approval at the Iredell-Statesville Board of Education on Monday, May 13, 2024.

I-SS Virtual Academy
Yolanda Lindsay, assistant principal at the I-SS Virtual Academy, has been named the principal of the school. With the growing population of the virtual academy, a full-time principal was needed to support the staff and students at the school.

Mrs. Lindsay began her teaching career in the Bovina Independent School District in Texas. She has served the students and staff in Iredell-Statesville Schools since 2008 as a teacher, literacy coach, instructional facilitator, and assistant principal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Eastern New Mexico University and a master’s degree in executive leadership from Gardner-Webb University.

“I am thrilled beyond words to embark on this journey as the I-SS Virtual Academy Principal,” explained Lindsay. “ I am looking forward to working with our amazing staff to inspire, innovate, and empower our students in the years to come!”

N.B. Mills Elementary School
Sally Schultz, assistant principal at Cloverleaf Elementary School, has been named the principal of N.B. Mills Elementary School. 

Before her time in Iredell-Statesville Schools, Ms. Schultz served as an admin intern and lead teacher at Knox Middle School and a teacher at Hanford Dole Elementary School in the Rowan Salisbury school district. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Catawba College and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Western Governors University.   

“I’m really excited to join the N.B. Mills team,” stated Schultz. “I look forward to getting to know the students, staff, and community.”

Mrs. Lindsay and Ms. Schultz will assume their new roles on July 1, 2024.
